about

A nostalgic story about growing up in Michigan and wishing the time would slow down...

Now that I have kids of my own, the time moves by so fast, I wish they too could grasp how precious this time we have is.

lyrics

Verse 1
I grew up here
Chalked my name over on that sidewalk
My brother broke his leg
on a trampoline in that front yard

I played ball right on that field
climbed that fence since I was eight
Oh I remember walking home
From my high school every day

Pre-chorus 1
How the time ticked slow
When we were young and didn’t know any better

Chorus
We would stay cool
And play down in the basement
We would ride all day
With our bikes along the pavement
We wouldn’t want more
Than the memories we were making
If we only knew
that the time would always move
We’d slow down and take it in
Take it in, take it in one more time

Verse 2
Stay outside too long
Jump in the pool every summer
Go to Ben’s corner house
And hear a whistle for our dinner

Playing hockey in the street
And move for cars driving by
And jump around in bare feet
Out in the puddles left behind

Pre-chorus 1
How the time ticked slow
When we were young and didn’t know any better

Chorus
We would stay cool
And play down in the basement
We would ride all day
With our bikes along the pavement
We wouldn’t want more
Than the memories we were making
If we only knew
that the time would always move
We’d slow down and take it in
Take it in, take it in one more time

Bridge
With every day that passes by
I pray to God for a bit more time
To be a father, to kiss my wife
To hold my kids, and squeeze them tight

Pre-Chorus 2
But now the time ticks slow
For our young kids who don’t know any better

Chorus 2
So they’ll just stay cool
And play down in the basement
And ride all day
With their bikes along the pavement
They won’t want more
Than the memories that they’re making
If they only knew
time would always move

If I only knew
Time would always move
I’d just slow down, slow down
Just slow down and take it in, take it in
one more time
Just one more time

Bridge 2
Just slow down
Just take time
Breathe in deep
And live your life
